The Haitian earthquake has caused more than 14 billions dollars in damages. The Inter-American Development Bank calls it the most devastating natural disaster of any country since World War II; this comparison based on 17,000 other natural world disasters.
The Haitian population is nine-million people, 40% of the population is under the age of fourteen-years old. Roughly, 225,000 Haitians died from this natural catastrophic disaster, leaving scores of children wandering the streets in search of their parents, hungry, crying and homeless. Many of these children are fighting an uphill battle just to stay alive.
Our planet Earth is alive, shifting and renewing its self, causing violent earthquakes and volcanoes to erupt. Though this process is terrible, frightening and deadly it has its purpose, these forces create the world anew. The children of Haiti know this first hand; they are witnesses to the horror and death of such a monumental catastrophe. Such is the life for the children of Haiti, born into poverty, kicked back into a barren world, no home, no food, no one to care for them.
How are they to survive in the poorest country in the western hemisphere, these children are at a higher risk of succumbing to diseases and their health problems increased ten fold by this tragedy.
We cannot and will not add to the misfortune of these children, we cannot turn our backs to them. This is Medical Wings International's pledge, driven by determination, to provide health care and wellness for Lamardelle, Haiti.
The need is great the children small and helpless, it is in the giving, our greatness as a country is measured, we must and will provide for the those orphaned by this upheaval.
We are working in partnership with Foundation Enfant Jesus/VVHF, and are committed to building a clinic (Sharing of the Hearts) for the children and community of Lamaradelle.
