A few days after the catastrophe earthquake Medical Wings International and its partner Hopeh, a Haitian organization, immediately established a plan of action.
The team of medical professional volunteers were deployed to Port Au Prince by way of San Domingo. American Airlines graciously supported our mission of mercy with flight/freight transportation.
We travelled in an SUV and truck. The closer we go to Port-au- Prince the more traffic grew. People wandered the streets. They were neither coming or going, just existing in a state of bewilderment.
Medical Wings Team treated anyone they met who needed help. We bandage wounds and gave out water. The third vehicle transported people to the mountain clinic to be treated by doctors.
Medical Wings group moved throughout camps, trying to find anyone who needed immediate medical attention.
MWI team treated people, cleaned wounds and helped others who were pregnant or with broken bones into the back of a huge truck and shuttled them to the mountain clinic. Some were taken to shelters in a government building that had been serving as a school.
Back at the mountain clinic, people lay on dusty concrete floors. It was obvious that through these people were injured, dirty, tired and homeless, they were in a much better place than before. One lady said that Medical Wings took her out of hell and brought her to heaven.
Our team of medical professionals, continued from town to town over the next few days helping displaced victims. Some of the worst suffering was in Petionville, near Port-au-Price. People lined up at water trucks amid rubble on the sidewalks and whole housed collapsed into craters. The smell of decaying bodies trapped in building grew stronger, as we move closer to downtown. Haiti Needs help now!
Medical Wings International and American Airlines is supporting the mountain clinic through ticketing/freight for medicine and medical doctors and personal items.
Medical Wings International and its partner HOPEH, program for education and health, have plans to build an orphanage for the 61 children she now house at the schoolhouse.
